Spring Cleaning

Lockdown is difficult because I’m perpetually in my house, continuously making a mess of it as soon as I get it tidied. I have various craft projects set about, books stacked up, half written recipes, strewn about. I don’t want to talk about our spare bedroom. But I’m solemnly swearing here to tackle all the organizing I’ve been putting off all winter.
For some motivation and inspiration I’m going to re-read The Home Edit. There’s lots of books out there like The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up that are great for helping walk you through the process of decluttering, but I find less helpful in getting the space back together and functional. I’m a visual person and I find The Home Edit an excellent resource for just that. Even as a renter with only so much control over my flat, I have picked up so many tips that have helped me immensely and don’t require an overhaul of my space.
Some spaces that have gotten away from me and need whipping back into shape:
Under the kitchen sink. This has been on my to-do list for Some Time. Once upon a time I had it clear and well organised. Now when I need something I grab it as quickly as possible and slam the door shut before I can think about the mess.
Tidy up the balcony. It becomes just a mess over winter. Just an afternoon of straightening up and sweeping and we should be out there sipping cocktails in no-time!
The spare closet. This houses all sorts of spare items from pantry items, to soap, and towels. It also contains some holiday items and has devolved into a jumbled mess. Part of the problem is the shelves are made from slats and are rather widely spaced so items are always falling from their designated shelves. This year I’m getting some baskets and organising to help remedy this.
The spare bedroom. Supposed to be our guest bedroom, but it is currently where unfinished projects go to die and a makeshift wine cellar. In the hopes of having guests in the not too distant future, I’m getting this room cleared out and back in order.
Wish me luck!
